Battle of the wills…

We still have a couple of hens who are trying to set. It seems that they are influencing everyone else as our egg production has seriously dropped. After doing a bit of research on how to break a broody hen, we opted for the “solitary confinement” method. With this method, you remove the hens from the nestbox and place them in a separate cage with an open bottom-in our case, an old rabbit hutch. The discomfort of the open bottom is supposed to break the broodiness. It worked pretty well with¬†two of the hens but two others had to go back for intensive therapy. We are hoping our egg production will pick up and the weather will warm up a bit before we allow them to hatch some chicks.
