We still have a couple of hens who are trying to set. It seems that they are influencing everyone else as our egg production has seriously dropped. After doing a bit of research on how to break a broody hen, we opted for the “solitary confinement” method. With this method, you remove the hens from the nestbox and place them in a separate cage with an open bottom-in our case, an old rabbit hutch. The discomfort of the open bottom is supposed to break the broodiness. It worked pretty well with two of the hens but two others had to go back for intensive therapy. We are hoping our egg production will pick up and the weather will warm up a bit before we allow them to hatch some chicks.
Just trying a wait a few more weeks until the weather warms up….the small coop isn’t as warm.
I thought you wanted some that would hatch eggs. SHouldn’t you put them on some eggs in a different coop and see what happens?
